Peter Wainwright is passionate about promoting creativity in schools. He has carried out several projects as a registered creative practitioner with Creative Partnerships, and also an accredited Arts Award Bronze and Silver advisor.

Creative Partnerships projects, which are all about a collaboration between teachers, external practitioners and pupils include:

Quilley School of Engineering
During Jan to Jun 2010, Peter Wainwright worked with Carl Leroy-Smith of Deer Park Alpha Ltd on a project with Years 7, 8 and  9 with Quilley School of Engineering in Eastleigh, Hants. One strand of the project was on exploring the use of the outdoors for learning; a major part was enabling children to find out from the public what makes the town special, as part of investigating “Britishness” and its many cultures. For many students this was the first time they had interviewed members of the public, and it helped build up their confidence and teamwork. Another strand was introducing children to design processes, and creative problem solving; this involved using art, language, and physical prototyping of structures.

Park Community School. Peter Wainwright was selected, in Spring 2011, as one of a group 0f 7 practitioners to work with Park Community School, in Havant, on a “Rich Challenge” project to develop various aspects of the school’s environment. This was a true partnership between teachers, the seven creative practitioners and the 150 Year 7 students! Peter’s group focused on developing outdoor play areas. This project involved children developing skills in design, creative thinking, teamwork, surveying and researching the needs. The project visited a major community adventure play area in Portsmouth, explored the concept of “play”, and the children created and implemented their own designs.

Craig Bedford, teacher at Park Community School says: “Many thanks for all you did for the kids. Your legacy will last beyond the logs and ropes – in the minds of the pupils and staff lucky enough to be part of “Wainwright Enterprises”…. many thanks Sir, great working with you”.

Urban Story Book. Peter Wainwright was part of the Deer Park Alpha team that carried out this project in Portsmouth with St John’s Roman Catholic Primary School, Charles Dickens Junior School and the local community. See the amazing stories here. The impact on igniting pupils’ passion for creative writing was an unexpected and welcome outcome!
